Happy Saturday!
If you’re not a Spotify user, you can skip this issue of Eclectricity. I’ll save the usual selection of positive and interesting links for a subsequent issue.
If you are a Spotify user, here are some links to playlists you might find enjoyable, if your musical tastes are anywhere close to mine. Each of these is (usually) updated weekly by an automated routine I put together, which means songs may disappear from one week to another (so save any songs you really like.) Each playlist contains 50 tracks.
Note: Some day, the software that produces these playlists may stop working (Spotify has a habit of changing their rules and removing functions from their API, breaking playlist-generator software without notice.) But until then, most of these are updated weekly on Fridays:
Genres and Moods
LeeCo Radio 21 – My Coffee Shop : If I owned a coffee shop, this is the music you would hear playing in it. These are songs meant to be listenable while you’re working or focusing on something else, without putting you to sleep. I usually listen to it while I’m reading. It’s neither too energetic nor too slow. You’ll find relatively modern artists like MJ Lenderman, Big Thief, Waxahatchee, Kacey Musgraves, Tyler Childers, The Head and The Heart, etc., as well as older music by Fleet Foxes, Rilo Kiley, The Shins, Wilco, The Sundays, etc.
LeeCo Radio 6 – Alt Country and Indie Twang : A mix of folk, Americana, Alt-Country, and other similar stuff. May or may not sound too “country” for your tastes. This mix usually includes modern artists like Ratboys, Caamp, HAIM, Jason Isbell, and Lord Huron, as well as older stuff by Son Volt, The Jayhawks, and Uncle Tupelo.
LeeCo Radio 15 – Chill Out, Slow Down : Music to relax and calm down with – a mix of old and new, lower-energy music. It’s arranged so that it gets progressively more relaxing as it goes along, with the lowest-energy songs at the end. You’ll hear everything from Bill Withers, Crowded House, and Fleetwood Mac to Arlo Parks, Biig Piig, and Yo La Tengo.
LeeCo Radio 4 – Roots Music : Another mix of folk / Americana / alt-country that leans more into Americana, classic soul, blues, southern rock, etc. This is my attempt to re-create the sound of The Creek FM, a Macon, Georgia radio station that I like. You might hear modern artists like Gregory Alan Isakov, Alabama Shakes, Charley Crockett, Langhorne Slim, etc., or much older artists like The Allman Brothers, Hank Williams, Little Feat, Ry Cooder, John Prine, etc.
LeeCo Radio 12 – C86, Twee Pop, and Tape Club: A rotating mix of 50 tracks in the genres of Twee Pop, C86, and Tape Club. You’ll hear indie pop, lo-fi, and jangle pop artists like Belle and Sebastian, The Go-Betweens, The Olivia Tremor Control, Good Flying Birds, Talulah Gosh, Close Lobsters, The Field Mice, etc.
LeeCo Radio 13 – Jangle and Power Pop: a mix of power pop and jangle pop songs ranging in time from the 1970s up to this year’s new releases. Fans of Big Star, Matthew Sweet, Jellyfish, Sloan, The Lemon Twigs, etc., should enjoy this mix.
LeeCo Radio 19 – Neo-Psychedelic: Modern bands with a psychedelic rock sound. Here you’ll find artists like Khruangbin, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, The Nude Party, Silver Synthetic, Allah-Las, etc.
Time Periods
LeeCo Radio 5 - A Dream of the 90s : A rotating selection of 50 mostly-alternative tracks from the 1990s. Featuring genres like Grunge, Britpop, Alternative Rock, Power Pop, Lilith Fair, etc.
LeeCo Radio 22 – A Dream of the 60s: A rotating, eclectic collection of 50 tracks released in the 1960s, with a focus on garage rock, freakbeat, and sunshine pop. You’ll hear well-known hits by artists like The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, and The Zombies, as well as deep cuts by acts like The Easybeats, The Standells, Strawberry Alarm Clock, and Small Faces.
LeeCo Radio 23 – A Dream of the 70s: An eclectic mix of rock and pop from the 1970s. Likely to include everything from America, Linda Ronstadt, The Rolling Stones, and Steve Miller Band to Hot Tuna, Carly Simon, Little Feat, and Warren Zevon.
LeeCo Radio 10 – A Dream of the 80s: Mostly alternative music from the 1980s (New Wave, Alternative Rock, Post-Punk, Goth Rock, Synthpop, etc.)
Other Mixes
LeeCo Radio 1 – Heavy Rotation : Songs I’ve been listening to the most over recent weeks. Updated / rotated weekly with a selection of 50 of my most-played tracks from the past few months. Likely to include genres like Modern Rock, Indie Pop, Dream Pop, Americana, Alternative Rock, Power Pop, and other styles.
LeeCo Radio 3 – The Past Five Years: A rotating collection of songs I like that were released in the past five years. If your tastes are anything like mine, this can be a good place to find modern music you might have missed.
LeeCo Radio 0 – Now Playing: Songs I’m listening to right now. This one changes very frequently and reflects my current mood and tastes. It could be old music, new music, high energy, low energy, or something else.
